There are several forces that combine to birth a man’s destiny. Some of these forces are beyond him, nonetheless a good number are of his own making.

Once there was a shepherd boy. Obviously, not the only one at the time. But this shepherd boy had a big destiny. He had the oil of kings coursing through his veins but he was in no palace. In fact, he was abandoned as a no-do-gooder at the outskirt of town tending to a flock. That explains while he wasn’t invited to the meeting when his family received as guest the second most important person in their land until his presence was requested.

Long story short, a vacancy opened at the palace and his well built, better placed brothers were not equipped to fill it. On sound recommendation, “One of the young men said, I have seen a son of Jesse the Bethlehemite who plays skillfully, a valiant man, a man of war, prudent in speech and eloquent, an attractive person; and the Lord is with him”, the employer sent to the boy’s father, “Send me David your son, who is with the sheep.” The rest as they say is history because that little ruddy boy, David, the keeper of sheep, became the man of his destiny. He became king.

Here’s the take home today: No matter where you are or who you are, you have a destiny and it is your responsibility to prepare for it. Whatever your dreams are, acquire the skills that is necessary to live that dream. Remember, your opportunity will come but WILL YOU BE READY?
